Howard Gell, Managing Director

Howard is responsible for the Civil Engineering, Transport & Highways departments in the Hertfordshire office and was appointed Managing Director in May 2011. He has established specialised services for pre-planning and pre-purchase inquiries, providing advice on infrastructure, flooding and transportation. Howard continues to work on individual projects providing strategic advice and technical solutions. Howard and the team of Directors are continually striving to make Glanville the best it can be, building upon the successes of the past and equipping the firm for the challenges of the future.

John Birch, Director

Chartered Civil Engineer, BEng CEng MICE

John is the Director responsible for the Civil Engineering and Transport & Highways departments in the Oxfordshire office. Having been with the company since 1993, John has a complete understanding of business and client requirements across a broad range of engineering and transport related disciplines. He is very service-orientated and client-focused in his approach, with a diverse portfolio of clients from both the public and private sectors.

Hylton George, Director

Chartered Civil Engineer, BSc CEng MICE

Hylton is an Director within the Civil Engineering department in the Hertfordshire office and has over 20 years’ experience.  Hylton enjoys finding the best design solution to meet the client’s needs and his experience has been diverse, including investigation, design and contract administration on projects ranging from highway improvements to large business parks and residential developments. His understanding of infrastructure requirements allows him to provide excellent advice to clients from both the public and private sector.

Chris Edge, Director

Chartered Land Surveyor, BSc MRICS MInstCES

Chris is the Director responsible for the Geomatics (Land Surveying) departments at both offices. He has worked for the company for over 20 years, during which time he has been responsible for the continued technical development, expansion and strategic direction of the Geomatics department. Chris has experience across all sectors of the survey industry and provides specialist advice on historic building surveys and boundary disputes.

John Hanlon, Director

Chartered Civil Engineer, BSc CEng MICE

John was promoted to Director in 2018 and works within the Civil Engineering department in the Oxfordshire Office. He enjoys working closely with clients to provide the best possible advice and cost-effective design solutions to meet their needs. His experience covers infrastructure, residential schemes and commercial developments, working for clients from both the public and private sectors.

John French, Director

Chartered Structural Engineer, BSc CEng FIStructE

John heads up the Structural Engineering department in the Oxfordshire office and has nearly 30 years’ experience in the design of building structures. He relishes a challenge and likes to work in multi-discipline teams to achieve the client’s aims. John is experienced in all styles of building and types of construction, from new-build to the refurbishment of existing buildings and temporary works. He aims to bring out the best in his team and deliver results for the client.

Steve Berger, Director

Chartered Building Surveyor, BSc MRICS

Steve is the Director responsible for Building Surveying and is closely involved in the work carried out from both offices. Steve joined Glanville in 1997 to establish the Building Surveying department which has expanded in size and in the range of work it undertakes, including building design, party wall and CDM advice, condition surveys and defect diagnosis. The department aims to provide a very client-focused service that meets expectations for each project. Steve has particular expertise in providing design and project management services to the telecoms and utilities sectors.

Transport Planner, BA MCIHT

Tim is a Director with responsibility for the Transport & Highways department in the Oxfordshire office.  Having first joined the company in 2001, and also having worked for a local authority, Tim is experienced in dealing with the transport and highway issues associated with infrastructure, housing, education and commercial developments of all scales for both public and private sector clients.

John is a Director within the Geomatics team in the Oxfordshire office.  He has over 25 years of surveying and mapping experience, both in the UK and overseas. His expertise covers the full range of surveying disciplines with recent focus on the use of high resolution scanning and imagery.

Bryan Murray, Director

Bryan is the Structural Engineering Director in the Oxfordshire office. He maintains an active role in projects from inception to completion and co-ordinates the in-house design team. He is passionate about engineering and design and has proven expertise in a number of challenging and award-winning projects. He strives to understand, interpret and exceed client expectations by providing a reliable service with clear and focused communication at all levels.

Nigel Porter, Director

Nigel is the Director responsible for the development of the Structural Engineering team in Hertfordshire and has worked for the company for over 25 years. His role is to provide high-level engineering advice and to monitor the detailed design to ensure that it meets the client’s needs and complies with all the necessary statutory requirements. He has been involved in a wide variety of projects including residential and leisure developments in the Caribbean and large research & development schemes in the UK.

Andy is a Director working within the Structural Engineering department in the Hertfordshire office.  A Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in structural design, including residential, commercial and leisure developments, he has been involved in a number of high profile overseas projects in the residential and leisure sectors, designing luxury resorts.
