Building refurbishment - Refurbishment / extension of Grade II* listed buildingGlanville was appointed by the Trustees of the Coppid Hall Estate to undertake the design, project management and refurbishment of an existing residential property with a Grade II* listing. The original property was built around 1700, but was extended and refurbished in the 1960's. Glanville were initially approached to carry out surveys and investigative work to determine the form of construction, and the condition of the structure and services. It was also necessary to determine the composition of mortars and plasters within the original parts of the property, so that remedial works could be carried out in a manner that was in keeping with the original construction. The main staircase in the house was removed and replaced during the 1960's refurbishment. Glanville prepared a detailed design for the new staircase, based on the original, to reinstate the layout and form of construction. The original sash windows and external door to the main frontage of the property were in an advanced state of disrepair. Detailed drawings and specifications were required for the repair of these elements including retention of the original glazing panels. Detailed applications were submitted for planning, listed building and building regulation approval. The proposals were reviewed and approved by English Heritage before any works commenced on site.
