Wolvercote Mill, Oxford
Glanville has been providing services to CALA Homes for the new Wolvercote Mill development on the outskirts of Oxford. 190 new homes are being built around Mill Square, the community hub that will also feature a doctor’s surgery, a community centre and light industrial units.
The developers have embraced some of the environmentally aware transport ideas that Oxford is seeking to implement over the coming years. Walking routes will provide a link between the development and the existing village whilst a cycle route will allow easy access into Oxford. For cars there are electric charging points either directly within the garages or as part of the communal infrastructure for those homes without a garage. The Enterprise Car Club also allows people, who just require one occasionally, to borrow a vehicle. The development also has bus stops providing access to new routes.
The scheme makes use of natural assets, including mature woodland and watercourses. Glanville advised on engineering and geomatics aspects of the project to ensure that CALA’s bid was founded on sound engineering assumptions. The due diligence included the detailed assessment of below ground services undertaken by our geomatics team using desktop utility record searches, and the latest in underground pipe and cable detection equipment. We were also able to use utility mapping survey data as a risk management tool.
