Glanville is a multi-disciplinary consultancy able to offer a wide range of professional advice through all stages of a project.
Whether services are provided separately as discrete packages or seamlessly as the professional team for the whole project, Glanville is always totally committed to the needs of the client and takes pride in providing a high quality service regardless of the size of scheme.
From offices in Didcot (Oxfordshire) and Hemel Hempstead (Hertfordshire), Glanville works throughout the UK employing a multi-professional team of engineers, surveyors and experts in all types of construction projects. For over 40 years the firm has grown steadily and diversified as a result of its ‘can do’ attitude, attracting a wide range of clients from both public and private sectors.
Our clients and fellow professionals recognise and appreciate the added value that we bring to a project, allowing our experience, creative thinking and sound engineering practice to help realise the full potential of development opportunities.
Glanville has established an impressive reputation for its valuable contribution to projects at all stages, from inception to completion. Our experts are available to offer comprehensive advice from initial feasibility and planning, through detailed design to construction and post-project support.
Glanville takes a proactive approach to all engineering issues, investigating available options at every stage so that the most efficient and sustainable solution is taken forward.
Studies include consideration of the site's previous history, ground conditions, land contamination, environmental issues, flood risk, drainage and utilities, transport accessibility, traffic impact and highway access as well as preliminary advice on structural design and building condition. These studies highlight potential abnormal costs and identify whether more detailed investigations are necessary.
We are also able to carry out topographical and measured building surveys to provide an accurate base for preparing initial design proposals.
We are able to provide technical support for planning applications, including the preparation of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Road Safety Audits, Flood Risk Assessments, Foul Drainage & Utilities Assessments and Phase 1 Geo-Environmental Appraisals. We are also able to take responsibility for the submission of planning applications, co-ordinating the work of other professionals as necessary.
We have staff who are used to engaging in pre-application discussions with local planning and highway authorities and have considerable experience with public consultation and community engagement, which is becoming increasingly important at the pre-planning stage in order to gain local support for schemes.
Once planning consent has been achieved, our experienced design teams are able to provide a responsive, professional service to turn proposals into reality. Whatever the project, Glanville takes pride in its ability to prepare efficient and cost-effective civil, structural and infrastructure designs, combining technical expertise with the latest design software to obtain building control and other technical approvals in a timely and efficient manner. Our engineers have experience in all the major structural materials on projects of all types and sizes.
We have recognised the benefit of Building Information Modelling (BIM) both for new-build design and the refurbishment of existing buildings. We have invested in the latest laser scanners to capture 3d data quickly and accurately, as well as Autodesk Revit software for detailed design purposes.
Glanville is a team player and is used to working closely with a wide range of architects and other construction professionals.
Glanville is able to advise on the most appropriate form of contract for the project and ensure that all of the associated documentation is in place. We have extensive experience in the preparation of specifications, bills of quantities and other tender documentation. Glanville is also able to provide advice on the short-listing of tenderers appropriate for the project. Once we have evaluated returned tenders, we are able to advise on the final selection and appointment of the most suitable contractor.
During the construction phase our engineers and surveyors protect the interests of the client by monitoring progress on site, to see that work is carried out to an acceptable standard and in compliance with the specification. If appropriate, we are able to place staff on site for the duration of the contract.
Our engineers ensure that design changes (that may prove necessary as a result of unforeseen site conditions) are accommodated efficiently with a minimum of delay to the project. Claims by the contractor for additional payments can be reviewed and negotiated by Glanville, on behalf of the client.
The transfer of design data from plan to site is a critical stage of a construction project. Glanville is able to provide teams for the setting out of all aspects of the project or specific staff allocated to work as part of the client's team. The latest equipment enables the automatic upload of design co-ordinates and cost-effective one-man setting out (site permitting) with robotic total stations.
Glanville’s engineers, surveyors and specialists remain available following completion of the project to address any continuing issues, such as the implementation of measures required by planning agreements, including Travel Plans. Further assistance can be provided during the maintenance period, with the completion of snagging items and resolution of the final account.
Glanville also offers assistance with facilities management and the implementation of maintenance programmes and contracts.
